Description: | This 2008 G B Rogeri copy is the first violin I have made by this maker. I have matched the wood as closely as possible to the original and feel it is an absolute triumph. I love the back of this instrument with its grain meandering to and from the centre and the knots really help give it character. The instrument has only been played by a professional for an hour but already sounds fantastic. If you are a soloist or in an orchestra this would be a superb buy. The front and back both have full arches into to edge and the scroll is cut with purpose of emulating the original closely as possible. As a maker of fine violins it is sometimes a battle deciding weather or not to antique its finish. Personally I prefer not to. I like the scratches to occur naturally giving the instrument more authenticity. However I do like to show artistic shading of the varnish to give the appearance of much play. It helps create the overall look of a well kept older instrument . The wood is at least 7 years in age and the varnish is oil on spirit. The spirit varnish is a beautiful warm yellow brown and very transparent. The oil varnish on top is a deep orange red coloured by my own home made pigments.
