Diego del Valle was born in Valladolid (Spain) in 1977.
Since his early age he enjoys working with wood and has always been handy with various delicate and accurate woodworking projects.
He studied cabinetmaking and civil engineering at his birthplace, a town of Valladolid. When he was almost 20 he relocated to Madrid where he was fortunate to know and study the craft of violinmaking under the tutelage of master luthier Pavel Schudtz, eventually falling in love with the art of violinmaking. His apprentice ship by then had turned into assistance to Pavel Schudtz at his workshop in Oviedo where he gained the experience, knowledge, technique and secrets of string instrument making by working together with Pavel, Andrea and Maria Schudtz , and since then he has largely occupied himself with hand-crafting new modern instruments and bows, restoration and repair older instruments. Over the years the quest leads Diego to Cremona, Italy to study the secrets of the early violin makers as well as the art and science of modern instruments craftsmanship. There he is always a welcomed guest at Andrea Schudtz who has opened up his own workshop in Cremona.
In Spain Diego along with Maria Schudtz run their shop in Oviedo where he carries out set-ups, bow re-hairing, renovates, preserves and repairs stringed musical instruments and bows, alongside making new instruments. Aside from the instruments of the violin family.
Working with national orchestras of Asturias he has been invited to orchestra rehearsals so that players could try different instruments and bows under concert conditions. He likes to work one-on one with his clients to craft the bow or string instrument that best fits their needs and playing styles. He works a lot in collaboration with Andrea Schudtz at his workshop in Cremona taking part in various mutual projects to promote the contemporary cremonese violinmaking art.
Diego is honored to be invited to participate in summer courses of the Prince of Asturias Foundation’s International Music School, as well as he attends and participates at various trade fairs and exhibitions all over Europe including Cremona Mondomusica in Italy, Frankfurt Music Messe in Germany, Shanghai Music Messe in China and Paris Musicora in France.
Nowadays he founds himself deeply involved in the construction of stringed instruments basing his work upon the classical line of early Italian violin making, yet show inventiveness, personality and style. His instruments are inspired by the great masters of the antique Cremonese school. A particular care is dedicated to acoustic quality and beauty of the instruments made in his workshop, applying the latest methods in that field. He always tries to create the most authentic and highest quality instrument possible.
