A pupil of Nicolo Amati, Giovai Battista Rogeri was born in Bologna but settled in Brescia. He was one of the few makers left in northern Italy after the plague of the 1630s. His itruments blend the large Amati pattern with various Brescian features and show outstanding workmahip. His son, Pietro Giacomo, was also a fine maker.
